Office of State Audits and Evaluations Training
Pursuant to its 2015-2019 Strategic Implementation Plan, the Department of Finance is committed to recruiting, developing and maintaining a premier workforce consistent with the fiscal and budget policy leadership role of Finance. OSAE’s strategy for maintaining this commitment is to continuously develop and implement employee training, onboarding, and Career Development Programs. We reinforce our training through innovation and the practical application of lessons learned to current work assignments.
Newly hired FPE’s at Finance will attend the New Employee Training Program where they will receive the training necessary to succeed in their new job. Topics include the following:
- Performance auditing
- Internal Controls
- Fraud and Risk Assessment
- Data Reliability Assessment
- Substantive testing
- Workpaper preparation
- Report writing
In addition to new hiring training, all staff participate in general and government-specific Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and professional development activities that enable them to accomplish assigned responsibilities and satisfy the CPE requirements of Government Auditing Standards. CPE training is provided internally by OSAE as well as through outside classes from the California Association of State Auditors, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, or other professional training organizations.
To help develop and promote strong relationships within OSAE, we developed a mentoring program for our employees. The goal of the mentoring program is to provide a mutually beneficial program that fosters growth and professional development. Mentors will assist new hires in the onboarding process through informal meetings and activities.
