Bert Levit

January 5, 1959 to July 31, 1959

Bert Levit was appointed Director of Finance by Governor Edmund G. Brown on January 5, 1959. He was born in San Francisco, California, on February 16, 1903. Levit graduated from Stanford University with a degree in law and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence (also known as a Juris Doctor, or J.D.) degree in 1925. He served as a special assistant to the United States Attorney General in Washington, D.C. for a year after graduation. In 1927, Levit started his own legal practice after returning to San Francisco. He was a charter member of the San Francisco Junior Chamber of Commerce from 1933 to 1935 and chairman of its municipal affairs committee. After Finance, he returned to his private law practice in San Francisco.
