Department of Finance Directors

Steve Peace was appointed Director of Finance by Governor Gray Davis on January 21, 2003. He was born in San Diego, California, and graduated from the University of California, San Diego, receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science. He produced, acted, and wrote a movie series which began with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1978). He served in the California State Assembly from 1982 to 1992 and the California State Senate from 1993 to 2002. As a State Senator, he was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy from 1995 to 1997 and the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee until 2002. After his public service, Peace served as the Founding Director of the California Independent Voter Project.
