B. Timothy Gage

January 4, 1999 to January 17, 2003

B. Timothy “Tim” Gage was appointed Director of Finance by Governor Gray Davis on January 4, 1999. He received a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and a master’s in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to being appointed by Governor Davis, he was the Chief Fiscal Advisor to Senator John Burton, the President pro Tempore of the California State Senate, and served in the same capacity for the prior President pro Tempore, Senator Bill Lockyer. Before serving in this position, Gage was the Chief Consultant to the Assembly Ways and Means Committee (currently known as the Assembly Appropriations and Assembly Budget Committees) for seven years. He also served for six years as the Assistant Fiscal Advisor to Senate President pro Tempore David Roberti, and for three years as a budget analyst with the Legislative Analyst’s Office. During his tenure as staff to the Legislature, Gage concentrated on state and local fiscal relations, state tax policy, and overall budget dynamics.

Later, he went on to co-found the Blue Sky Consulting Group in 2005, which works with various foundations, private sector companies, and non-profit organizations to tackle policy issues.
