Budget Calendars

California’s Budget Calendars

  • General Budget Timetable – This is the state’s general budget calendar. It begins in early January and includes approximately 60 different dates or action steps that are related to the Governor’s Budget development and which lead to the enactment of the Budget Act. It includes dates for the upcoming budget year as well as the fiscal year following the upcoming one. It does not reflect earlier actions that departments must take in preparing their budget proposals for submission to the Department of Finance, nor does it reflects budget administration dates and activities.

NOTE: These calendars are to help departments plan their budget work based on Budget Letters and the SAM Budgeting Chapter. They show the general dates that apply from year-to-year. For the specific dates that apply to a particular fiscal year, see the various Budget Letters, especially the annual Budget Preparation Guidelines Budget Letter usually issued in mid-April.
