Labor Force and Job Numbers

Civilian labor force includes individuals 16 years of age and older who were working or actively seeking work.

Civilian employment includes paid employees, the self-employed, private household workers, unpaid family workers, people on unpaid leave, and people participating in a labor strike. Civilian unemployment counts individuals who did not work but made efforts to find work. This series is from the monthly household survey of the civilian noninstitutional population.

Nonfarm wage and salary employment includes all full-time and part-time employees. Excludes farm workers, the self-employed, private household workers, people on unpaid leave, and people participating in a labor strike. This series is from the monthly survey of businesses and government agencies.
