Civilian employment includes paid employees, the self-employed, private household workers, unpaid family workers, people on unpaid leave, and people participating in a labor strike. Civilian unemployment counts individuals who did not work but made efforts to find work. This series is from the monthly household survey of the civilian noninstitutional population.
