Lyman King

January 31, 1930 to January 5, 1931

Lyman King was appointed Director of Finance by Governor C.C. Young on January 31, 1930. King was born on July 17, 1869, in Mount Ayr, Iowa. He moved to California at five years old. After attending California public schools, he graduated from Napa College in 1887. He became a prominent political reporter in San Bernardino County, eventually becoming the owner of “Facts,” a popular newspaper at the time. He was the Secretary and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Southern California Hospital for nine years before being appointed Superintendent of Census for the Eighth Congressional District and a Presidential Electorate. King was elected to the State Senate in 1914.
